Here's an article with a company having a strange partnership. This isn't the full article, but it covers how Coca Cola made a deal with the American Academy of Family Physicians to show the "health benefits" of drinking a soft drink full of artificial sweeteners. I see the future advertisements having doctors giving the positives of Coke and "forgetting" to name the negatives.

Yeah, I can't see Coca Cola spending millions of dollars in order to be able to run ads that will make their product look worse. The only other way I could see Coca Cola taking advantage of this if they never actually unveiled the results of the research. Instead they would just hope to benefit from a better public image resulting from their "concern" over the publics health.
ReplyDeleteLets face it, no one drinks soda to be healthy because everyone realizes it's not really that good for you. I like soda a lot but when it comes to cutting calories soda is the first thing I replace. I find it hard to believe that coke signed with doctors to tell the truth about their product. I can't imagine coke paying people to make their drinks less appealing. One of the major reasons people don't drink soda is because of its high calorie and sugar content. Why would coke want to reinforce its negative aspects? The only way I could see this working is if the coca cola company had doctors say coke isn't really as bad as some may think. Of course coke doesn't want to admit if that's their intent because then people would know it's lies.
ReplyDeleteIn the United States, health is a big issue. I think by partnering up with The American Academy of Family Physicians, Coke is trying to show Americans that the company cares about the health of it's customers, whether or not that may be true. This could be beneficial to them, especially if they try and market a new, healthier drink.
ReplyDeleteWell I highly doubt the Coke company cares about anything but boosting profits. Somewhere in there administration someone was convinced that this would be a good PR move. I also think that this shows alot about the American Academy of Family Physicians, in reality they are also interested first in money and second in health.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to guess that when people are seeing the Coca Cola brand name you are thinking of the dark brown caffeinated soft drink. However, did you stop to think that Dasani, Minute Maid, Powerade, and VitaminWater are also so names that are brought to us by the Coca Cola company. Just throwing it out that not all the products offered by Coca Cola are strictly soft drinks.
