The article talks about Andre Agassi's book coming out, and how he admitted to taking illegal drugs during his tennis career. A lot of tennis players have come out recently stating their disgust with his decision to take the drugs. The drugs that he took (Crystal Meth) are actually performance inhibitors, not helping him improve his tennis play. Do you think Andre has tarnished his legacy with this book?

  1. It is obvious why Agassi is coming clean with this now, he has always been an attention seeker. He is the man behind "image is everything" and this will insure his book sales will skyrocket. Agassi is a master performer and he played this out so that he comes out of this as a sympathetic figure who overcame his demons. The bigger issue is that the ATP swept his test results under the carpet. Whether it's a performance enhancing drug or not, it's an illegal substance and the ATP wanted to shield itself and one of it's most popular players from embarrassing attention. While I do think it takes a lot to come out with this confession, it definitely tarnishes his legacy to a degree.

  2. This definitely tarnishes his legacy to an extent, but also provides insight into how easily the positive tests for substances were hidden away and easy to disregard. The ATP is responsible for keeping their sport clean of substance abusers and the fact that they looked the other way is startling when Agassi could have used help in kicking his addiction. Although Agassi's legacy is tarnished, it definitely brings attention to the ATP and how they conduct themselves in regards to substance testing when someone tests positive and how easily they disregard the tests.
