AT&T Demands Verizon Stop Airing "Misfit Toys" Ad
For their holiday advertising campaign Verizon has launched a series of commercials that express their network superiority over AT&T. Specifically, Verizon has attacked AT&T for their lack of 3G coverage in the United States. AT&T has since demanded that Verizon take down the ads. Do you think Verizon should be forced to take the ads down?

And that's not all...
There has been continued controversy between Verizon Wireless and AT&T recently with regards to their advertisements. AT&T claims that they have been improperly portrayed by Verizon's advertisements. Verizon denies this, saying that AT&T simply can't handle the truth.

I think advertising, if truthful, should be allowed. If Verizon was simply making up the coverage map to make AT & T look bad then I would understand how it could be bad, but if it is the truth then why not highlight your advantages over the competition?
ReplyDeleteI agree. I thought this advertisement was hilarious the first time i saw it. Verizon attack At&t with it's own slogan. However if it is true that the maps are not accurate then I support At&t but if not, I agree with Verizon that they can not handle the truth
ReplyDeleteI think that advertising needs to be truthful and if not then it needs to be taken down. However, for the majority of the American public they have no idea if what these companies are saying is the truth or not. I have a feeling most people tend to believe what they see on TV or in other advertising. From my experience with these two companies I find truth in the ads by verison. AT&T really does not have the best coverage with its 3G network compared to Verizon. Verizon has really done a much better job having a better 3G network around the country. So I say why not promote verizon compared to its competitor AT&T if it can do it in a way to draw customers.
ReplyDeleteAT&T is just mad because the ads. make them look bad. If the ads. express the truth then why wouldn't Verizon air them. It is a clear advantage one company has over the other and that's what ads. are suppose to show. It has long been part of advertising for one company to show how its products and services are better than its competitors. As long as everything is truthful, Verizon is free to advertise anyway it wants.
ReplyDeleteI don't really see how these commercials are any different than any other commercials out there. Tons of commercials not only promote their product, but rip down others such as KFC against Subway. I don't know how true these commercials are, but if they are accurate, AT&T has nothing to be upset about. It's standard advertising.

As long as Verizon is giving an accurate representation of AT&T's network then AT&T should not have any say in what Verizon chooses for an advertisement. Verizon is simply delivering the truth to consumers and if AT&T is not happy about it, then they should improve their network.
ReplyDeleteI don't see why Verizon should be forced to stop airing the commercials if they're accurate. If the ad was actually false then maybe they would have an argument, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

ReplyDeleteI saw these advertisements for the first time yesterday and I can see how it can be tricky to customers that don't understand them. I didn't completely realize it until a couple commercials later when an AT&T commercial was on in response to it. The Verizon advertisements are only talking about the 3G coverage, not actual coverage. Not everyone requires the use of 3G. In regular coverage both companies are comparable. My father was a little confused when he saw them. These commercials do give an unfair advantage when some customers don't understand them completely or pay full attention. But as they are truthful they should be allowed to remain up.
