Since it's that time of year, here's an interesting article I found about retailers and their advertising schemes for Black Friday. Many of us have seen them, some might have been a victim to them. . . I usually stay away from stores that day, though the times I have been, it's pretty crazy. . . people turn into animals. This article talks about schemes retailers pull in their ads to lure people to their stores and how these can make matters worse by angering customers.

I agree with this article. These retailers are advertising certain deals on Black Friday, but will then only hold minimal inventory. I feel like this could potentially turn loyal or future customers away. It is just as important for companies to retain their customers as it is to make profits on one day.
ReplyDeleteYesterday was the first time I had ever woken up for a Black Market sale. For one of them I arrived about 15 minutes before the store opening at 7. We had no chance at getting one of the deals on a TV and ended up walking away from that store with nothing. In order to get one I'd imagine you had to be one of the first few people in line and be there hours before opening. At this certain store there had also been fake advertisements circulating. Some people were there specifically for that but were only disappointed. Fortunately no one expressed thier frustration strongly.
ReplyDeleteIt is ridiculous, but an effective way to get some people to shop in their store. If a person was geared on getting that certain sale item that came in limited amounts they may end up paying full price for a comparable one that they wouldn't have before. I dislike how this works but I don't see how it has any negative effects on the company. This may be because I realize myself that if you really want one of those special items you have to be one of the first customers there. If in the future they should make it completely clear how limited the supplies were for these items and not just in fine print it should not cause any problems.
