I found an article about speed limits in Utah. I know its not as big
of an issue here in the states, but especially in Europe, there has
been lots of media attention over the past few years about increasing
regulations on the roadway. I just found it interesting that we are
going in the opposite direction.

Speed limits going up

By raising the speed limit, and having less people actually breaking the law, I wonder how they are counteracting the fact that they have less revenue from tickets coming in. Maybe they aren't set up like New York however, where a lot of revenue is made for the state from traffic tickets. Then again, it is Utah. After traveling to Montana and Wyoming this summer, people out west highly dislike when the government tells them how to do something. Especially how they drive.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, raising the speed limit I don't think will contribute to the effects on many drivers driving habits, especially when you are going from 75mph to 80mph. People are going to drive the way they want to. But on the flip side, considering senior citizens who are noted for driving way under the speed limit sometimes, this could be problem-matic. Such differences in speeds on the roads present potentially hazardess situations. And why do they find the need to keep changing it anyway? If it aint broke, don't fix it.
ReplyDeleteI believe that speed limit signs should be a suggestion on how fast you should travel. On the highway it is definitely possible to travel in excess of 80 mph safely, however not all drivers can do that. Therefore, I propose that there should be a separate lane for drivers who believe they have the ability to drive faster in a safe matter.
